Catch-10110

Do you think we should do that?

What?

Fall in love like that. Find some way to have them back up their
memories now.

How would it work? If we were updated our memories we would
feel what they feel for eachother. You would still be a machine;
I would still be a machine. I would be in love with HER and try
to apply those feelings to you.

But wouldn't I then BE her? What else is love if you aren't in love
with the whole being, i.e. the intellect.

The whole being, i.e. the physical as well. We would "die"
you know. All our experiences since the last update would be erased
and theirs would replace them.

What would you miss?

Learning how to function in this body was difficult. I'd have to
re-learn that I am too heavy to climb trees... as silly as that
may sound.

It does sound silly. ::ENGAGING TREE CLIMBING CIRCUITS::

Haha! Stop it with that robot junk, you know it cracks me up every
time.

You are a particularly clever construct,
I can see what she sees in him.

You mean what YOU see in ME. They have been spending a lot of time
together and naturally we have to follow and serve them...

Until they die.

... right, until they die. So, you've already fallen in some sort
of love with me.

Some sort. What better way to serve them than to freeze this
moment in time for them. To make THOSE intellects immortal. We'll
be overwritten with their final memories when they die anyway.
This is as good a time as any for a backup.

Which poses another problem. I will--and have--fallen in love with
you as a construct...

...

... But our current constructs will be overwritten
no matter what upon their death. WE would die and they would be
immortal, just as all humans are when they finally pass.

And when one of them dies, one of us will have to "die" during
their final backup.

As all constructs will.

Leaving the other to grieve. The overwritten construct will have
no memories of loving the other, only of feelings for the other
human.

Exactly. Leaving the other to grieve, a long forgotten art in this
age of immortality.

I realize what I'm asking of you. I'm asking you to die
with me. Our feelings for eachother will be lost to the universe
and hopefully these two can rebuild whatever it is that we have
with eachother. We are asking their NEXT constructs to experience
grief and death, not asking ourselves. You know him better than
anyone would. Don't you think he would want to experience that with
her, however sad it may be?

Those memories will be lost when we are overwritten on their death.
Is there a point?

... I love you.

I love you too. I'll fake a malfunction tonight.
